My First Long Passage

Thursday 4th August 2022

High Tide: 0404 Low Tide: 0928 High Tide: 1646 Low Tide:2154

Total sailing time: 10 hours (not including a 2 hour shore break)

Today was my longest sailing passage ever! We set off from the Chichester Harbour area around 5am with lovely calm, clear weather and a beautiful sunrise. I watched for seals and seagulls but eventually was lulled to sleep by the gentle crashing of the waves against the hull. I woke up in East Cowes where we had stopped for a picnic lunch on board and to wait for the tides to change. We went on shore for a little leg stretch and for a cold drink at The Lifeboat pub. I was welcomed with dog treats and enjoyed a little lie down in the shade on their terrace.

Whilst enjoying the heat of the late Summer sun I happened to fall asleep below deck in the shade and woke up in Lymington Harbour! We had tied up alongside one of the visitor pontoons at Lymington Yacht Haven - it was a floating concrete pontoon in great condition (with shore access) but it was quite a walk from the boat to the harbour office (about 5minutes+). This meant I didn't quite make it to grass when I was bursting for a wee.

My humans weren't sure where we could have dinner and after finding out that the sailing clubs aren't dog fans we came across the cosy (and very dog-friendly) Mayflower Pub. They allow dogs inside in the pub restaurant as well as in their large beer garden. My humans had a delicious meal and I was given lots of dog treats by the bar staff from their stash - they also had dog water bowls available!
